Return On Investment? Nah, just revenue raising.

On a recent trip into Tamworth I got 'pinged' for speeding.  So, for the first time in 20 odd years I have a speeding fine to pay and yes, I was speeding and yes, I'll cop (sic) the fine.

What probably vexed me most was that I didn't see the patrol car.  As an ex-copper I like to think I am more vigilant than most so on the return trip back to Sydney I was extra careful in looking for places that the patrol car could have hidden so well as to escape my vigilance.  Voila, the same car was sitting in the same spot he must have been hiding in when he 'pinged' me the previous day; tucked right away in a dark stand of trees.

That got me thinking, is this really how low the cops have stooped?  We have a highly trained, highly paid member of the public service actually hiding to catch the odd speeding motorist.

Wouldn't he have been of more benefit parked in a highly visible position so that every vehicle travelling on the New England Highway would have seen him?

I commend the officer for his diligent manner in totally obscuring himself and thus escaping my vision but is this really the best value for money we get as tax payers?

PS Did I mention it was at the bottom of a long hill following an overtaking lane that had merged into one?

Clocks galore

Our grandfather moon roller clock has just arrived from England and is keeping perfect time. It's over 200 years old.

The old Dutch wall moon roller clock has now been fully repaired after getting broken in transit from Germany. Our furniture restoration course skills came in handy. It's keeping time too.

Common courtesy has gone AWOL

In the last 3 weeks a number of buyers have made appointments to view various houses we have for sale. Nothing new in that you say. True. But...

... one chap called me at 4.50pm to tell me he wasn't going to come to a 5pm appointment. He'll never know the trouble my vendor went to in order to get the place ready.

On another occasion I had arranged to meet two parties at 6pm at another property. One sent me a text message at 5.50pm saying she was canceling, the other I called at 6.25pm and because she hadn't saved my number she didn't call me to tell me she had changed her mind.

Today, a chap rang at 3.30pm and insisted on making an appt. for 5.30pm. The vendors tidied up and cleared out. The buyer rang me at 5.25pm to say he had changed his mind!

Waratahs -Super Rugby

Why oh why do the backs insist on kicking possession to the opposition? 8 points down with 5 minutes to go and twice we kicked the ball to the Reds!

Hot, hot, hot

Saturday is a real worry...

What a contrast

Having just spent more than 3 weeks in Ol' Blighty with temperatures hovering between -2C and 8C, it has been a massive shock returning home to find catastrophic fire bush fire alerts and temperatures of 40C plus!

It was 30C at midnight last night.
